Standing Tall

Standing Tall, originally uploaded by vedd.

The Petronas Twin Towers at night.

Tech Details: 9 exposure HDR + some digital blending. I must say I like Photomatix 3.0 a lot!

Away from the chaotic cities

Monday, July 27, 2009

Away from the chaotic cities, originally uploaded by vedd.

Sunset in the east coast. No sun because the the sun was setting on the opposite side :-)

I used the ND400 filter for this shot. Although the ambient light is pretty low at that moment, but still I need a longer shutter speed.

If you are wondering about the green sands in the foreground, those are green algae on the sands. Kinda cool eh?

Tech Specs: Hoya ND400 filter for longer shutter speed, 9 exposures tone mapped HDR, And vignetting was intentionally increased in CS3.

Comfy enough?

Friday, July 24, 2009

Comfy enough?, originally uploaded by vedd.

My room for my previous company trip for a team building session in Genting Highlands. Never thought the room would be extra wide. The view was awesome from the 24th floor, covering a wide landscape of the mountain range scenery !

Tech Specs: Tone mapped HDR blended with DRI (the tone mapped version of the window cells were totally washed out). Altogether 12 exposures were used.

Sleeping Angel

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Sleeping Angel, originally uploaded by vedd.

My son taking an evening nap. Apparently he's too sleepy and fell asleep while taking his bottled nutrition :-)

This is a pseudo HDR - Multiple exposures created from a single RAW file. Digital blending using smart objects consisting of 1 tone mapped image and 1 DRI to preserve some of the realistic photo effect.

Over the edge

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Over the edge, originally uploaded by vedd.

Well I just wanted to share with you what it looked like from the roof top. Notice that, between us and the edge of the roof top, there's practically nothing to stop us from falling down :-)

Something I don't even dare to imagine when it was all wet and slippery hehe...

An outing that almost didn't happen with Ariffin, Abah and Rekospective.

Other views from this point can be seen here and here.

Note: It is always facinating when viewing the clouds over the Petronas Twin Towers. It is almost always magical, if I may say so :-)

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR with layer masking with one single exposure in CS3.

Getting up early

Monday, July 20, 2009

Getting up early, originally uploaded by vedd.

One of those days where I start the day very early in the morning and not without any reasons - Mr. Ragstatic was in town and what better way to start the day with him. Taken at the Metropolitan Lake Garden in Gombak.

Tech details: A mix of tone mapped HDR and DRI. Around 8 exposures were used.

The Light Above

Friday, July 17, 2009

The Light Above, originally uploaded by vedd.

I was going to put something like "Light at the End of the Tunnel" title but then, as you can see, there's no tunnel! hehe Another view at sculpture right in the entrance to Tower 1 at the Petronas Twin Towers.

Shot during Rajesh very, very short stay in KL. I love my angle finder very much! The whole entrance can be viewed here.

9 exposure HDR. No blending, just straight old HDR processing with some dodge/burn.

Blue Hour @ Sunway Lagoon

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Blue Hour @ Sunway Lagoon, originally uploaded by vedd.

Another one from the old archives - one of many photos submitted for the Sunway Photo Competition. Shortlisted but never made it :-)

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR. The upper and lower "border" are not real borders, it is a stage. I thought it would be pretty cool to have the stage floor and roof as an "HD borders".

One fine morning

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

One fine morning, originally uploaded by vedd.

Taiping, is the place where I was borned and grew up. My parents are still living there and this is where I spent my Eid Mubarak.

This is the Taiping Lake Garden, which used to be tin mines. The mountain at the back is known as Bukit Larut, also formerly known as "Bukit Maxwell" or Maxwell hill.

Some people called it the "Pensioners town", which I don't fully disagree. A quiet little town, simple and laid back :-)

I wish I could retire here, when the time comes.

Tech specs: 2 sets of toned mapped image (9 exposure of each). The first set of exposure is used to exposed the foreground and the second set is used to expose the sky and the sun properly.

The Blue Boat

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

The Blue Boat, originally uploaded by vedd.

This is a vertorama, my second attempt on vertorama actually, of the place where I stayed for my family vacation not too long ago. Other shots of the place can be viewed here and here. As you can see, there's practically no rocks to play with the long exposure and I'm pretty much stuck with the boat as a point of interest hehe

This time, no ND400 filter was used.

Tech Specs: Vertorama consisting of 2 tone mapped images. Each tone mapped HDR consists of 9 exposures. Stitched using CS3.

Revisiting a sweet spot

Monday, July 13, 2009

Revisiting a sweet spot, originally uploaded by vedd.

As the title says, I'm revisiting all the sweet spots that I've came across previously, mostly with Daniel and Ariffin. The reason is that, previously I don't own the EF-S 10-22mm and I felt that I didn't do those sweet spots any justice :-)

So here's to the first of the series! The best view of Kuala Lumpur, at any given time (except when it rained I guess :D)

Update: Thanks my dear friends! This one is currently #2 on Explore for October 28th, 2008!

Tech spec: Blending of 2 tone maps from 2 sets of AEB (9 xp each). 1 tone map is to expose the foreground and the other one to expose the sky. There was insanely too much colors and tones for a 9 exposures only.

P/S: I use Photomatix 3.1 for the tone mapping. New features are CA correction and NR reduction at HDR level (not after tone mapping!) Verdict: I am IMPRESSED!

Feeling rather uninspired...

Friday, July 10, 2009

Feeling rather uninspired..., originally uploaded by vedd.

Another shot of the Petronas Twin Towers. Not much shooting these days - H1N1 and haze is not really a good combo.

Update: A big thanks to you! Currently at #3 in Explore 20th Dec 2008.

Tech details: Nothing out of the ordinary - 9 exposure HDR, minor adjustment in Photoshop.

Rush in the Blue Hour

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Rush in the Blue Hour, originally uploaded by vedd.

An outing with Ariffin, Abah and Rekospective.

It was wet and slippery, we're on a roof top with nothing to hold us back if we slipped. Scary but worth it!!

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR. Layer masking in CS3 for the light trails.

The eastern shores

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

The eastern shores, originally uploaded by vedd.

Vacation in the East Coast of Malaysia not too long ago. Perfect place to catch a sunrise. The place I was staying has an endless stretch of beach, without a single rock. It was a bit dull and oh boy am I lucky to find this boat.

If you're wondering about the long exposure when the sun was up, well I was using a Hoya ND400 filter - worth every 9 stops :D

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR using Hoya ND400, so yeah this is one very long sequence of exposure bracketing. Layer masking with one single exposure in CS3. Vignetting was intentionally increased in CS3.

Cold or Warm?

Monday, July 06, 2009

Cold or Warm?, originally uploaded by vedd.

Cyberjaya Lake Garden.

Somewhere nearby my office. Shot this with a friend of mine, whom also work at the same place with me.

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR, blended with a single exposure using smart objects. The long exposure was done using the Hoya ND400 filter. Love it!

Mosque on Mirror

Mosque on Mirror, originally uploaded by vedd.

It's a clear day today. No haze, visibility is good. Thanks to the rain last night. Decided to stop over at the Puchong Perdana Mosque for a quick snappy.

Note: I'll be on and off from Flickr from now as my wife is currently pregnant with our second child and my personal life to attend to, so yeah, time is indeed very very limited for me. Apologies for not visiting your stream lately. At most I've only got time to upload a few shots. I'll slowly catch up when the time comes. Have a great weekend my friends!

Tech Specs: 9 exposures tone mapped HDR vertorama. ND400 is used to achieve the long exposure effect.

An old shot taken in view of the TM tower and the MidValley. I think I was there with Ariffin, if I'm not mistaken :-)

Note: Trying out the updating Blogger from Flickr. Kinda Cool!

Tech Specs:9 exposures tone mapped HDR.
